The PGA Tour, NFL and college basketball will all be sharing the spotlight over a busy weekend on CBS
The 2022 Farmers Insurance Open will begin this Wednesday, Jan. 26 and be held through Saturday, Jan. 29 at Torrey Pines Golf Course, with the shift forward in tournament competition accommodating a crowded weekend of sports.
With the move, the final round will finish Saturday evening on the East Coast with an expected conclusion at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
CBS will air six hours of coverage from the Farmers Insurance Open this Friday and Saturday, while Golf Channel will carry the first two rounds on Wednesday and Thursday as well as lead-in coverage of the final two rounds.
The Farmers Insurance Open has traditionally launched the PGA Tour season on CBS.
“We appreciate Farmers Insurance’s collaboration and innovative thinking with this shift in competition days,” said PGA Tour president Tyler Dennis when the move was first announced.
“The PGA Tour’s first network event of 2022 wrapping up on Saturday combined with football games the following day will create an action-packed weekend for sports fans.
Farmers Insurance has also shown extraordinary commitment to diversity in our game, and we are thrilled with the expansion of the APGA Farmers Insurance Invitational which will include Golf Channel coverage of the final round.”
Sunday, Jan. 30, the previously scheduled completion date of the tournament, will be home to the final round of the NFL Playoffs ahead of Super Bowl LVI.
The 2022 AFC Championship Game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Cincinnati Bengals will air that day at 3:05 p.m. ET on CBS.
“The teamwork, flexibility and creativity exhibited by the PGA Tour and Farmers Insurance to adapt the schedule for a Saturday finish was outstanding,” said Dan Weinberg, CBS Sports executive vice president of programming.
“For over a decade the Farmers Insurance Open has launched our season. Thanks to our terrific relationships, our viewers are in for a fantastic sports weekend on CBS with golf, football and college basketball.”
